Belgien Städtereise

There are many interesting cities in Belgium, and a week's holiday is quite short. But you don't have to see everything. For the return journey I booked the Flixbus. The first stop was Antwerp, from here I went to Bruges and Genth.

Antwerpen

First stop Antwerp. Europe's second largest seaport, the world's most important centre for the processing and trading of diamonds, the place where the painter Rubens worked. On the way from the bus stop I walked through a street full of art nouveau houses. Very nice to look at, unfortunately I did not take any photos. But that doesn't matter, there was enough to see in Antwerp. The industrial area with the futuristic harbour house by the architect Zaha Hadid, the old train station in all its splendour and the beautiful old town with the town hall. Here I ate Belgish Fries in a French Fries factory, one of the tourist magnets of the city. Not bad, but also not a culinary highlight. After two days I drove on to Bruges.

Erste Station Antwerpen.

Bruges looks as if time stood still 600 years ago. A picturesque old city, well preserved, a bit like Disneyland. In the old town, shops line up with Belgian chocolate, Belgian waffles, Belgian beer and chips, then it starts all over again. Nevertheless, Bruges is a city worth seeing, with many museums and small alleys where you can walk around all day. My hotel was quite simple, but centrally located. On the right hand side a cosy coffee, opposite a noodle restaurant only five minutes walk from the centre. Old windmills on the outskirts of the city, a beer museum in the middle and boats on the canals. A city like out of a picture book. I made a day trip to Gent and another to Oostende on the North Sea.

Gent

Many say that Genth is more beautiful than Bruges. Well, it depends. While Bruges is very touristy, Genth has a university, young people and therefore a nightlife. In Genth you will find many large churches with high towers in a small area. You can clearly see the prosperity that trade brought in the Middle Ages. Also here it is recommended to take a free walking tour. For a tip, students guide through the city and tell the city history. On the recommendation of our scout I took a Klokke Roeland, an 11% stout beer.
