Porto

I visited Lisbon a few years ago, I liked the city very much. History, friendly inhabitants and the right climate for a city trip in spring. Porto also has a good reputation, so I spent the rest of my holiday here. The hotel was located in the middle of the historic centre and was stylishly furnished. Only a few metres away from the highest church tower and the bus stop of the airport shuttle. I got the first overview from the upper deck of a hop-on/hop-off bus, as after the flight I did not feel like a long walk. The next day I drove to the Atlantic coast. The weather was good, nevertheless high waves hit the lighthouse. A great spectacle, which I watched for a while. From here I walked back to the city, always along the river. In the center you have a good view to the bridge Dom Loui 1, the landmark of Porto. At the foot of the bridge there are many cafes that benefit from the view of the bridge. Port wine tasting is offered at every corner. Unfortunately, I do not like port wine. Why is Porto not known for something delicious? Apropos tasty, the red wine here tastes excellent! Of course I also ate the toast Francesine. Very hearty. Exactly the right meal after walking through the city all day. The coffees are also worth a visit. Delicious sweets and coffee with milk for little money. On the next days I strolled through the city.  No target, I just let the city work its magic on me. With the historical trams I drove also many times. It's funny to watch when the chair backs are rebuilt when the tram changes the direction. Of course you have to watch out for pickpockets here, but that's the case in every big city. Porto is a great destination, I can recommend the city unreservedly!

Aveiro

Aveiro, the Venice of Portugal. Well, who has already been in Venice doesn't quite understand the comparison, but everything is relative. If one is already in Porto, one can also visit the attractions nearby. In Aveiro sea salt was mined in former times, a field is still to be seen. In the city, one sees many houses from the Art-Deco era. Also tiled, but in a more modern style. On the coast there is a beautiful beach and a high lighthouse. In the summer Aveiro is certainly a worthwhile destination, in the winter rather not. On this day I would have better gone to Braga or Coimbra. But I don't want to complain, Aveiro isn't that bad and I can check it off on my list now.

Four towns worth seeing are located near Porto. I saved Braga and Coimbra for the next visit. I was in Avairo the day before, there was Guimarães left. Guimarães, the first capital of Portugal is like Aveiro fast and easy to reach by train. The historic center of Guimarães belongs to the world cultural heritage of the UNESCO. And rightly so. The houses and alleys in the oldtown invite to a walk and the fortress ruin looks as if a knight would come out of the gate at any moment. All beautifully renovated and maintained. You can also take a cable car to a church on a nearby mountain, unfortunately the cable car is out of order.
