Harz

A few years ago I was in the Harz on business and saw how beautiful it is there. So what was more obvious than to go to the Harz again with more time for sightseeing

Quedlinburg

I started my tour in Quedlinburg, a 1100 year old town. More precisely, in a small witch's cottage at an old granny. It was very cozy there. After my hikings I cooled down with a black beer in the courtyard. Quedlinburg used to be a rich town and since there was no war production here, Quedinburg was spared from the bombs. Today the city is completely restored and shines in the new, old splendor.

Teufelsmauer

The Devil's Wall is a striking rock formation that stretches for 20 km from Ballenstedt to Blankenburg. Quedlinburg lies in the middle. Incidentally, the Teufelsmauer is one of the oldest nature reserves in Germany. The rock fragments stretch vertically into the air and look like a wall built by giants, but it is simply geology you can touch. An impressive natural monument!

Bodetal

The Bode Valley, whose most striking section lies between Treseburg and Thale, is a gorge up to 280m deep. You would expect something like this in the Alps but not in a low mountain range in the middle of Germany. Near Thale, high on the rock, lies the Hexentanzplatz and opposite it the Rosstrappe. After the hike through the gorge, I took the ropeway to the Hexentanzplatz and enjoyed the view. Not without reason, the area is a tourist magnet.

Wernigerode with its beautiful old houses is one of the most famous cities in the Harz Mountains. And rightly so. High above the city towers a picture book castle, which contributes its part to Wernigerode's fame. From here you can also take the Brockenbahn to the Brocken, which I would like to do someday. In the surrounding area there is an old castle ruin and a small Hobbit village, old water arts deep in the forest and much more.
